Darwinism Between Dawkins and Collins: Does the Atheist or the Believer Represent It?
You can tell people that you don't have to be an atheist to believe in Darwinian evolution, but what you can't do is hide the connection between atheism and Darwinism.
In 1998, a survey of members of the National Academy of Sciences in the United States of America, and the answers of biologists in the Academy to the question whether believe in God as follows; 65.3% do not believe in the existence of God 29.1% agnostic, which means that the percentage of atheism and agnosticism within the biology of the Academy up to 95%.
Similarly, according to a 2003 survey of leading evolutionary scientists, 87% do not believe in a god, 88% do not believe in an afterlife, and 90% reject the idea that evolution has been directed to an "ultimate purpose."
- Out of the circle of leading scientists in biology and evolution, atheism and agnosticism rates are lower, but remain significantly higher than those of atheism in the general public. According to a national study of college and university students published in 2007, more than 60% of biology students consider themselves atheists or agnostics.3
The bottom line; if the question is who is the true representative of Darwin's theory, is it the biological atheist Richard Dawkins author of The God Delusion, or the Christian geneticist Francis Collins author of The Language of God?
The answer is obvious, Dawkins.
