If you're anti-evolutionists, you're not allowed to laugh anymore. Written by: Aisha Mohammed A new study published in the journal New Ideas in Psychology shows that there are potential evolutionary reasons for laughter. “Laughter is a tool, nature may have provided us with to help us survive,” says the author in his article (2). Having compiled all the available literature on laughter published in English over the past ten years, amounting to more than 150 papers, there is a possibility that “the persistence of laughter may have been preserved over the past thousands of years to help humans survive by natural selection.” What a shame that natural selection is! Natural selection is not enough to account for all of the physical traits that have emerged in the field of evolutionary biology? But, until now, we haven’t had the exciting story we used to hear in the field of evolutionary psychology, so what is the story of the origin and evolution of laughter presented to us by the author here? “Laughter can be a signal that people have used for thousands of years to show others that a response (fight or flight) is not required here, and that the perceived threat is over,” says the author. “That’s why laughter is often contagious: it unites us, makes us more social, and signals the end of fear or anxiety. Laughter is an affirmation of life.” Although this cute story, as usual evolutionary stories, are very likely to have happened early in the history of the human race on Earth, the evolutionists are still quite far from the challenge before them; what is the evidence?! What is the evidence that all laughter has a single origin? What is the evidence that it has provided an efficiency that has helped us to survive? If it does, what is the evidence for its diversity? If it has varied, what kinds of laughter may have helped to survive? All these questions will not be answered, because they are basically not concerned with specialized scientists who use evolutionary tools (such as survival and evolutionary origin and remote selection) at all! If the ideological framework is stable and everyone supports it, then why bother trying to provide an answer to all this?! A new cycle, then, in an unbroken chain of disregard for the scientific principles established in the various branches of science, the champion of which, as usual, is evolution! -------------------- (1) Carlo V.
