Peace be with you. In the name of God. I thought about Islam in my youth. In 1978, I was a doctor (excellence) in the Department of (Beauty and Burns) at the main university hospital (Al Amiri) in Alexandria, and I was then an adult deacons and professor of Coptic language and a professor of Sunday schools in the Church of the Virgin Mary in Muharram Bey, Alexandria. One day, I was in the men's burn ward, and there was a fire in the kitchen of the Santa Lucia restaurant at the sand station, and the ambulances came to us, and my patient was the most injured, the cook, and his burn rate was 100%, and he was screaming terrible pain, and we knew he was going to die within 24 hours, according to experience. When he calmed down, and the first aid began, and he put a catheter in his urine, he said to me very calmly, making my head hair stand up: He said: Doctor, wait and save your efforts and medicines for my colleagues. I was very impressed, he added: I am a Muslim man who believes and is united with God, and I was a nurse in the army, and I entered the war and learned to heal burns, and I know that I will die inevitably within a few hours, do not tire yourself and waste medicines in vain, enough pain injections whenever I feel pain. And let me die in peace, I am not afraid of death and I wish to meet God. And my head was almost gray at that moment. He turned his face away from me and began to sing the Qur'an calmly, and the more he sang the calmer he became. The next morning I did not find him, and asked the nurses about him, and one of them said to me that he kept singing the Qur'an until his soul went out quietly, and he asked for only one drink of water and one sedative injection. His image remained in my imagination, and still today whenever I remember him I see him, a strong young man, with his whole body on fire. And I teared my eyes out that day, and they still are. I asked myself: How is he not afraid of death? Is it because of Islam, or because of the Qur’an? What is this certainty? What is this assurance? What is this peace with God and the love of meeting Him? And what is the secret of this book that sings its words and becomes more calm? I did not forget this man until I converted after about fifteen years, in 1993, and I understood what he said after I was Muslim for years, when I proved my faith and learned the Qur’an and its interpretation. Whenever I remember him, I say, “May Allah have mercy on him, and forgive him, and make his grave a kindergarten from the gardens of Paradise, and make his speech with me in the balance of his good deeds until the day I meet you.” I do not wish to say thank you to God for the blessings of Islam. Thank God for the unity. Thank God for the blessing. Thank God for the grace of faith and certainty. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. — Source: Published on Facebook's "Braheen Center" page https://www.facebook.com/braheen.org/posts/377999862379091
